ABC Head Start Society Opens New Location at Northgate Centre, Offering Early Learning and Development Support for Children and Families in Need
ABC Head Start Society has officially opened its second custom-fit early learning facility, Northgate Campus, located in Northgate Centre. This milestone marks a significant chapter in the organization’s 40-year history and advances its vision to ensure that all children have access to a full and successful life.
The Society provides inclusive, high-quality early learning programs for children aged 3 to 5, complemented by comprehensive wraparound supports for their families. Many of the children served are neurodivergent, experiencing speech and language challenges, learning delays, or behavioral complexities. In addition, numerous families face financial or social barriers that limit access to traditional preschool programs. By supporting both children and caregivers, ABC Head Start helps families overcome obstacles, strengthen their capacity, and build brighter futures together.
The 6,513-square-foot facility officially opened in September and now serves approximately 130 children and their families this school year. Purpose-built to meet the diverse needs of preschool-aged children, the campus includes:
Four classrooms designed for inclusive early learning
A gross motor room to support physical development
An assessment room and Snoezelen sensory room for individualized support
A family programming room
Dedicated spaces for administrative and resource teams
Child-friendly washrooms and accessibility features
“ABC Head Start families are often facing poverty and other vulnerabilities, and most children accessing our services are learning and growing as neurodivergent thinkers,” said Erin Gobolos, Chief Executive Officer of ABC Head Start Society. “With a new dedicated space for educational programming, speech therapy, and parenting workshops in north Edmonton, this location creates a nurturing environment that meets the unique needs of children and families for the next ten years.”
The development of the Northgate Campus was made possible through generous grants from the Stollery Charitable Foundation and the Edmonton Community Foundation. Their support played a pivotal role in securing and developing the space, enabling ABC Head Start Society to respond to urgent space challenges following the loss of several classroom locations in 2024.
