Transportation Update for Families
In the Spring of 2020, our agency was informed by the Government of Alberta that our transportation funding would not be increasing to meet the demands of our growing head start population. As a result, we had to make the decision to reduce the number of yellow buses we could deploy to transport our children to one of our five program locations. We know many of our children benefit from the use of the transportation program provided and this will be a challenge for some families in the 2020-2021 school year.
In response to these budgetary constraints, we explored options to establish which families will be offered bussing. In order to make it a fair process, we will be following a ‘lottery’ system whereby the names of families enrolled with ABC Head Start Society, who have identified they would like bussing, will enter a draw and names will be pulled on August 3, 2020. The families who have been selected will be notified the week of August 3- 7, 2020. The families who do not have their name drawn will be notified by email, with suggestions of alternate transportation options.
