And The Winner Is...
And the winner of the Good Neighbour Award is...(drum roll)...ABC HEAD START!!
That's right, ABC Head Start will be the recipient of the Good Neighbour Award at the November 30 Oilers game (applause, cheers, woot woots.) This is perfect because I have been practicing my acceptance speech for YEARS! I have rehearsed many o' acceptance speeches in the shower, when I'm cleaning my house, in my car, pretty much any time when I can really get into it. Usually I was accepting Grammies, Academy Awards or Tony Awards but I could probably tweak it to make it more relevant.
Actually I will not be accepting the award (huge sign of relief from my Executive Director's office) but I'm sure I could give them so tips since I am so well versed. Our Executive Director along with our Community Coordinator will be accepting the award. They have also done something very cool and extended the invitation to all of the employees at ABC Head Start to put their names in a lottery for the two other spots that are open for us to attend.
So here they are, my tips for making an amazing acceptance speech: (ED and CC you can thank me later...)
1. Always start by thanking the academy. I'm not sure what that means but it sounds dignified and cool.
2. Throw in words like honoured, privileged, and opportunity whenever you can.
3. Comment on how the award is much heavier than you thought it would be - it makes people wish they were the ones holding it!
4. Ignore the wrap up signs you may be getting and talk until the music comes on, it makes you seem really important.
5. Don't wear dresses/shoes that will inhibit you to be able to climb stairs gracefully (seen that one WAY to many times.)
6. Remember to thank your family - whether they did diddly squat or not you have to go home and face them.
7. And lastly, it's great for dramatic effect if you shed a tear but don't get carried away and do the "ugly cry" no one wants to see that.
So here are the details! This award is only presented 7 times per hockey season so we are fortunate to be the 2nd recipient to receive it this season. State Farm Insurance/Edmonton Oilers Community Foundation are sponsors of this award and will be doing a presentation prior to the hockey game. So if you are going to be at the Oiler's game on November 30 get there early and CHEER AS LOUD AS YOU CAN when ABC Head Start accepts the award! And if you know anyone that is going to the game share this blog with them so they can cheer loud too!
