SCARECROW FESTIVAL 2008

Thousands of children and families enjoyed the thrills, scares and fun of Scarecrow Festival 2008.  The festival was better than ever with exciting new decorations and  addition of new games and activities.

The Haunted House was scarier than ever for those who enjoy the thrill of being terrorized. Art Samusz and his crew from Lambda Chi Alpha Fraternity ensured that there was a scare around every corner. The Happy Haunted House offers a much toned down version for the younger set and those who are not so brave!  Judging by the line ups, wax hands, face painting, crafts, cookie decorating and the Whispering Tomb were as popular as ever.

An exciting new event was offered on    Friday evening with the first ever “Family Halloween Howl”.  Thanks to the vision and hard work of Tammy Patterson and her committee, this event was a huge success with a sold out crowd of 400 enjoying games, crafts, a delicious meal and a chance to bid on wonderful items in both the Silent and Super Auctions.

The children, parents and staff from the Millwoods North A site were on site    Thursday for the Media Event.  The children played games, enjoyed stories in the  Whispering Tomb and toured the Happy Haunted House.  They were also a big part of the judging and the awards ceremony for the decorating contest.  Thanks to the staff and especially the parents and      children for being a part of that day.

A new and much welcomed development this year was the sponsorship of a craft centre by the owners and staff of Machine-O-Matic.  This is a machinist company in south Edmonton who partnered with ABC Head start to offer their support to our  program.  They wanted to be involved in a “hands on” manner and the Scarecrow  Festival seemed a good fit.  Under the   enthusiastic leadership of Shannon Stitlet, office manager, the company purchased all the supplies for the craft and provided staff volunteers to operate the venue through the three days of the festival.  This was a huge undertaking for this small company and proved to be extremely successful.

Thanks Machine-O-Matic!
